This photo represents a common problem, a corner fireplace right where the roof ridge beam has to go. With a steep pitched roof, there may be enough room to maneuver the chimney to one side of the beam before it breaches the roof.
In this case, that was not possible as the inside firebox opening size required a large chimney.
My solution was to use two flues in a split chimney stack configuration, one flue on each side of the wood beam.
For fire and seismic safety, I maintained two inches of clearance between the wood and the masonry.
All voids within the block are grouted solid. Horizontal and vertical reinforcing steel are encased in grout, on the inside of the block walls.
